VAIL - Construction work continues in Vail Village and Lionshead through the ski season. Here's an update on where the individual projects are at:
The Arrabelle at Vail Square
At the Arrabelle, pre-cast concrete is being delivered to the site and installed, and steel framing is also being installed. A tower crane is being delivered early next week. The building began in April and will be completed by late 2007, said Paul Witt of Vail Resorts Development Company. The Arrabelle will have 67 condos and a 36-room hotel. The building is on the site of the old gondola building in Lionshead.
Sonnenalp
At the Sonnenalp hotel expansion, crews are finishing up the top floor, which has five hotel rooms, said Brad Church of the Weitz Company, project superintendent. Crews will then start on first-floor office space and the restaurant, as well as exterior work and sidewalks.
Construction, which began in April of 2005, is expected be complete June 15, Church said. The expansion includes 41 hotel rooms, offices, underground parking and a restaurant, Church said. The Sonnenalp is on Vail Road at the corner of East Meadow Drive.
One Willow Bridge Road
Work continues on the exterior, the roof, the elevators and the interior framing on this condo and timeshare project. It's expected to be completed by July, said superintendent Craig McPeek of the Weitz Company. The building will include 12 timeshares, 10 condos, two spas, an outdoor pool and stores on the first floor, McPeek said.
Work began in January 2005. One Willow Bridge Road is at the International Bridge and East Meadow Drive in Vail Village.
Vail Plaza Hotel and Club
Concrete is being poured three days a week, and steel installation should be finished by the end of February. Workers are also working on framing, plumbing and electricity, said Michelle Willyard, project engineer with Shaw Construction. Carpet and tile work will begin soon, she said. The project began in November 2004 and is expected to be completed in December, Willyard said.
The Vail Plaza Hotel and Club is between the frontage road and East Meadow Drive in Vail Village. The project includes a hotel, timeshares, restaurants and a spa.
Four Seasons
Excavation of the Four Seasons site should begin in late spring. The building will have 120 hotel rooms, 16 condos and 19 timeshares. David Brooks, senior project manager with the John Hardy Group, said construction will hopefully begin in April or May, he said, with excavation and shoring.
The project is expected to be completed in late summer, 2008. The Four Seasons is on the southwest side of the main Vail roundabout.
Gore Creek Place
Four of the Gore Creek Place townhomes are already framed and enclosed. There are 16 townhomes, each with four or five bedrooms. Vail Resorts Development Company hopes to finish first homes in early summer, Witt said. The entire project should be done by the end of the year. The project began in late 2004.
Luc Meyer Remodel
Crews are finishing the plumbing, electrical work, duct work and getting ready for drywall work, said Warren Hancock, superintendent of the project. The three-story project is comprised of one commercial unit - Vail International Gallery, which is already open - and a two-story residential unit.
Construction should be complete by April, Hancock said. The building is on East Meadow Drive in Vail Village.
Alpenrose
The Alpenrose restaurant in Vail Village is expected to reopen in late February, said Dennis Havlik, the developer. Chef Peter Haller will be back, Havlik said. Construction began last November, and the restaurant will have new floors and booths. Construction is finishing up now with work on interior finishes, Havlik said. The Alpenrose is on East Meadow Drive in Vail Village.
