New Crossroads Market To Sponsor Betty Ford Alpine Gardens Children's Butterfly Launch
(Vail, Co) - The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens is proud to announce that a Butterfly Launch will take place on Wednesday, May 17th. Vail Valley children from Eagle County schools will participate. Sponsorship funds have been provided by Crossroads Market.
A combination of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders from all of the Eagle County public and private schools has been invited to participate. Each student will be supplied with a kit that includes a viewing net, caterpillars and food. The students will raise two caterpillars, watch as they pupate, and then turn into a Painted Lady Butterfly - in about 30 days. All of the students will gather at the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens and release the butterflies together. The emergence of the adult butterflies will be a spectacular sight to see.
"It is truly a remarkable sight to see all the butterflies flying into the air together, landing on the children and on the flowers in the garden," said Jim Brandmeyer, executive director of the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. "It is a wonderful program that combines the science of life cycles and the enjoyment for the students of raising their own butterflies and then culminating in the launch at the Gardens."
In addition, the students in each classroom will decorate a 40" x 30" butterfly cut-out to be displayed at the launch event. Following the event, the cut-outs will be on display at Crossroads Market where the public will vote on the favorite butterfly. The winning classroom will receive a cookie party compliments of Crossroads Market.
The children will arrive at the Gardens at 11:30 a.m. on May 17th for a picnic lunch followed by the Launch event. Drinks and snacks will be provided by Crossroads Market. The public is welcome to attend and experience the sight firsthand.
"We are thrilled to bring back this wonderful program that will be an educational benefit for the children of Eagle County, as well as bring additional beauty to the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens," said Robert McNichols of Crossroads Market and Daedalus Real Estate Advisors. "As a new business launching this year in Vail, this event will serve as the first of many charitable partnerships, involving Crossroads Market, we will pursue in the Vail Valley."
McNichols is the owner and developer of Crossroads Market and the One Willow Bridge Road project now under construction in Vail Village. Upon completion, One Willow Bridge Road will include a unique market concept, Marketplace on Meadow Drive.
"We were so excited to hear that this program is again available to our students," said Carolyn S. Neff, director of elementary education for the Eagle County School District. "The teachers are very anxious for this opportunity."
