One Willow Bridge Road and Crossroads Market & Cinema host screening of critically acclaimed documentary
'Music From the Inside Out' provides riveting insider's glimpse into the lives of members of The Philadelphia Orchestra, which joins Bravo! in July
VAIL, Colo. - March 1, 2007 - When Academy Award-nominated director and producer Daniel Anker set out in the spring of 2000 to explore on film the individual stories of musicians in The Philadelphia Orchestra, he quickly discovered music itself was the documentary's main character.
Anker, an Emmy winner for his film Scottsboro: An American Tragedy, chose not to labor over the details of classical musicians' lives - fascinating as they were - instead capturing them outside of the concert hall, without their tuxedos, and examining how the musicians themselves experience music.
"It's not a film about the craft of playing in a symphony orchestra," Anker said. "It's about music as it is experienced by all of us. There's no conductor when you sing in the shower."
There will, however, be a conductor when The Philadelphia Orchestra begins its inaugural residency with the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival this summer in Vail joining the returning Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.
Tuesday, March 6, at 6 p.m., the award-winning documentary, "Music From the Inside Out," will be shown at Crossroads Cinema in Vail. The screening is open to the public; tickets are $11 and can be purchased at the theater the day of the show.
The New York Times had this to say about the Emerging Pictures film, which was shot over five years on three different continents: "Profound and moving. Uncommonly perceptive and inspiring. A crowd pleaser emotionally, musically and intellectually."
The 90-minute film will be followed by a private reception for Bravo patrons at Crossroads Market, a gourmet grocery that this season previews the new Marketplace on Meadow Drive. Marketplace will open this summer in the high-end One Willow Bridge Road residential/commercial complex adjacent to Crossroads. One Willow Bridge Road will be the Concert Presenter for the opening night concert of The Philadelphia Orchestra on July 7.
