Arizona will get a piece of the action as Alliant Techsystems has received a $22 million contract to produce target practice ammunition.
The practice rounds provide the same ballistic performance as tactical ammunition, but at a lower cost, the company said in announcing the contract Tuesday. The rounds will be used for training applications including the Light Armored Vehicles, Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Apache helicopters.
The five-year contract was awarded to the Minnesota company by the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island Arsenal, Ill. If all contract options are exercised, the total value could be worth more than $100 million. Work on the contract will be performed at ATK's facilities in Arizona, Virginia and West Virginia. The company's Medium Caliber Systems Division operates in Mesa.
