East Valley Charities And Longbow Business Park Raise $40,000 For Sunshine Acres Children's Home
MESA, Ariz. - Sunshine Days, an annual two-day fundraising event for the benefit of Sunshine Acres Children's Home, yielded $40,000 in donations this year. East Valley Charities and Longbow Business Park teamed up again to host Sunshine Days, which took place on Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004.
Sunshine Days events took place at Longbow Golf Club, located on East Longbow Parkway between Higley and Recker roads, south of Red Mountain Freeway/Loop 202 in North Mesa.
Founded in 1954, Sunshine Acres is a charitable organization dedicated to providing a home for children who are separated from their own parents for one reason or another and to help them establish long-term relationships with stable parental figures. Benefiting over 1,400 children to date, Sunshine Acres celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2004 and paid tribute to its founder, 93-year-old Vera Dingman, who is still active in the organization. Her husband and co-founder, Rev. Jim Dingman, passed away in 1980, leaving a legacy of caring for children and a community of support.
"Once again I'd like to thank all of those who made Sunshine Days a great success: The staff and ownership of Longbow Golf Club; our sponsors; donors; volunteers and guests," said Tom Sitzman, chairman of East Valley Charities and seven-year event director for Sunshine Days. "Sunshine Acres has been a guiding light to literally hundreds of children over the years, and East Valley Charities is honored to be a small part of that mission."
"We're pleased once again to host Sunshine Days at Longbow Golf Club, benefiting our neighbor Sunshine Acres," says Robert M. McNichols of Daedalus Real Estate Advisors, LLC., developer of Longbow Business Park and Golf Club. "Our hope is to increase the annual number of events and the proceeds of this annual event with each successive year. Being able to assist such a worthy organization, located next door to our development property is a very fulfilling experience."
"On behalf of our children, we are very grateful for our relationship with Longbow Business Park & Golf Club and the hard work and dedication of East Valley Charities," said Carol Whitworth, executive director of Sunshine Acres Children's Home. "Since we do not receive any state or federal funding, we rely on the generosity of caring people and events such as this to care for our 60+ children. Revenue from Sunshine Days not only helps us with daily expenses related to caring for the children, but also allows us to offer extra programs such as
4-H, horticulture studies and the Sunshine Acres Choir."
