Inaugural Cubs Charities Golf Tournament raises $25,000 for Mesa
Longbow Golf Club shines as team, Hohokams contribute to Mesa Charities
MESA, AZ - The inaugural Chicago Cubs Charities Celebrity Golf Tournament today raised $25,000 for charitable organizations in Mesa. Proceeds will be shared between Chicago Cubs Charities, Sunshine Acres Children's Home, Banner Cardon Children's Medical Center and the Mesa HoHoKam Foundation.
More than 70 golfers participated in the tournament, which featured Cubs Hall of Famers Ernie Banks, Fergie Jenkins and Billy Williams, General Manager Jim Hendry, Assistant General Manager Randy Bush, Vice President Oneri Fleita, radio broadcaster Keith Moreland, Major Leaguers Bill Buckner, Mariano Duncan, Jeff Fassero, John "Blue Moon" Odom and Phoenix Suns Tim Kempton and Eddie Johnson.
"The Cubs and Chicago Cubs Charities are proud to continue our strong partnership with the City of Mesa and to give back to the lives of those who, like the Cubs, make this community their home," said Mike Lufrano, Cubs executive vice president, community affairs. "Thank you so much to all who helped make the inaugural Chicago Cubs Charities Golf Tournament such a success. Longbow Golf Club looked absolutely beautiful."
Participants played 18 holes at Mesa's championship Longbow Golf Club and then enjoyed lunch and baseball at HoHoKam Stadium where the Cubs played the Cincinnati Reds.
